I also talk about one coach who is doing great work on a farm providing fun sessions and impacting movement and fitness with different equipment to you may expect.

Be an Elite Coach:

You can make an impact on movement and physical development anywhere.

Last week, I spoke to a coach who does most is training on a farm.

He runs classes to various types of people where he uses equipment on his farm or things that can be stored in his barn and creates fun drills out of these.

He uses tyres to jump over or carry, brooms to hold and add instability in movements, bags to add weight, tunnels to crawl through to name a few.

And the best thing, he is getting results through transformation in peoples movement and fitness levels as well as high numbers attending all having fun!

This teaches us you can impact movement and fitness in any environment! You don’t need a gym and weights to coach Strength & Conditioning.

Be creative.

There are no rules.

Build Elite Athletes:

I often see coaches using running drills in their sessions—whether they’re sports coaches, strength and conditioning coaches, or personal trainers.

However, many are unsure why they include these drills. I believe you should be able to justify every drill you use in your sessions. Without a clear purpose, there’s no point or outcome.

So, what are my 4 reasons for using running drills?

  1. Develop Running Technique
Running drills help focus on getting the body into the correct position, applying force in the right direction, and coordinating movement with proper timing.

  2. Improve Mobility
Drills allow athletes to hit a full range of motion and move more freely compared to running longer distances. For example, the knee can be raised higher, and these drills can help maintain mobility over time.

  3. Plyometric Benefits
Certain drills require athletes to put significant force into the ground, developing strength, stiffness, and power. These qualities contribute to overall athletic performance.

  4. Develop Speed
Finally, the most important reason—speed development. Some drills can blend into sprinting, where athletes perform a drill and then transition into a sprint. Improving technique, mobility, and power through drills will ultimately enhance overall speed.

Here’s a short clip from Timothy Egerton, where he explains some of the benefits of using running drills in training—some of which you may not have considered before!
