Game speed isn’t linear.
Athletes rarely run in a straight line—they cut, react, chase, and reaccelerate.
If your speed work doesn’t reflect this, you’re not preparing them for performance.
Start coaching chaos—because that’s what the game demands.

🏃 One Practical Example

Drill: Tail Tag

Setup:

  • Every player tucks a bib or tag into the back of their shorts.

  • In a 10x10m square, players try to steal as many tags as possible in 30 seconds.

  • Once your tag is gone, you’re out.

You’ll train reactive speed, decision-making, and direction change—all in one short burst of chaos.

✅ One Action This Week

Swap one straight-line sprint drill for a reactive or multi-directional game.
Add chase elements.

Use constraints to develop movement and cues to change patterns as you see.
Give athletes freedom to move unpredictably.
Start small-, focus on intent, and short duration.
